FINALLY Screen Printing - And so it begins

Medellis, last year, said we should do some screening printing, once the students finished. I got *excited*, planned an idea and then (what with the building refurb) we didn’t get a chance. This week = AWESOME - I FINALLY GOT TO make a start. (Poor Adam)

So I don’t know what I’m doing but I knew I needed 5 colours, so five/six screens (as two different word designs). I was told this was a little ambitious for a first attempt but if it’s easy, it aint worth doing ;) And so it begins.

It took us 3 attempts to scale up the design, split for the acetate and two lots of acetate before we (Adam) got it right. Today I stuck the acetate sheets together (with help) ready for screens.

Adam no longer feels the need to disguise his heavy sigh, when I appear with a grin at the technicians office. It was agreed I needed 6 screen but it has now been decided, it needs splitting - so that’s 12 screen.

EPIC, this will be the screen print to end all other screen prints.

I’m nothing if not challenging :)

Kates (Tiger) leopard face, all done with contouring and no prosthetics. I reckon this would work well with the airbrush, so after payday when I buy the mehron mixing liquid, I will have a go.

In other exciting news, I met Dave for a post AS exam Summer swag pint and he wants to come and play too, I love that kid. Newest recruit, we are building an army :)

So this is what happens when I’m stuck in with the death cold + cabin fever and think Paper mache - whilst rewatching S01 American Horror Story. I have no idea what or why, I just wanted to make something that wouldn’t be destroyed.

Skull horned head dress made from paper mache, wire, Tape cassette tape and liquid latex. I will use as a head dress for a make - up, sometimes it’s just nice to make something coz :)

Side note - Tate Rocks hard, might try the Kill Bill whistling, High school shooting, skull face paint.

*Gotta love a roll top ;)

The Rose scar wax stitches looked great in person but washed out in the pictures, so I decided to do a quick sculpt version instead. Flashing shocking and edges thick but I will have a crack at an application and remold if needs must.

Gonna start trying to turn molds round in 24hr because, the only way I’m gonna get better, is by doing. Hopefully applying Wednesday on myself at MUC.

Been meaning to make this for a while and all it took was a kitchen knife, some super glue, my old portable speakers (front & back of head) and some clear silicone sealer + Kit’s broken zipper headphones, which are neato. For MUC, for when we have listened to all the vinyl. This was a lot of fun, glued down eye brows, scar wax for under eye ridge, latex and tissue for skin + prosthetic bone nose and ripped jaw.

Fallen outta love, a little, with The Walking Dead but zombies still rule. I recast the zombie mold to try and apply again, mixed the screenface concealer stacks with the gelatin in the double boiler for a better skin match, hopefully flashing is thinner.

First stage pre-painted to make application easier, with Skin Illustrator AA paints. Gonna apply on myself Wednesday @MUC, going for ‘long time dead’ zombie, less bloody more dry and yellow.

Kate wanted a back story for motivations so - Meet Rose, Tony’s gun moll, she double crossed him and stole the cash, he paid her back with a slice. She met her fate on a lonely night in the roll top bath but at least he sewed her up ;) FUCK YEAH back stories and everything, Glenn would be proud. FUN FOR THE WIN.

Kate looks smokin but the photograph doesn’t do the victory rolls justice and (if I do say so myself + it was more luck then judgement) in person the hair looked super lush.

I promised after Day of the Dead I would do something pretty and she does look drop dead gorgeous :) pretty workable night time look. Make up ended up a little Silke Spectra from Watchman, I got to use my AA paints Electric pink and blue on the eyes with pink base and yellow lips.

Sculpting a lion prosthetic to be cast in gelatin for Kate next, Foam latex is gonna have to wait till after pay day. Shattered but tons O fun MUC @ Chateau Maraj.

Half term full day Make Up Club involved having your make up applied, at least 3 times by a 4 year old, bless Ila, she takes after her mum.

Kate’s Modern Geisha, the airbursh failed us again and I cleaned it and got itworking for about 30 seconds, then Kate got too excited and carried away and it clogged again, gotta invest in some Mehrons mixing liquid.

I loved being a vampire, wasn’t planning on using the blonde clip ins but it worked best and was all a little ‘The Prince’ in Hellboy - LOVED IT

It took two attempts to apply the prosthetic and the new super strong Grimas spirit Gum I bought wasn’t much cop. The airbrush failed us and the Magicolour did cog it (I spoke to soon) so I had to apply white with sponge. I really couldn’t mold flashing thin enough with ed the head, so I reckon I’m gonna need to life cast my face again, with the alignate and cast in crystacal, so I can sculpt off that form instead. Still can’t blend the gelatine invisible but it’s only my third gelatin prosthetic to apply, so I guess, getting good take time.

Sculpted and cast - I made a real mess of the fencing and got more on the table than the mold but mistake are good, they build character.

Prob gonna sculpt something I can cast in Foam Latex next, unless this blends like a beaut, then I will give something else a go.

Full face Day of the Dead, base coat using Ben Nye Magicolour white with the airbrush worked a treat, didn’t clog and 3 coats matted beautifully, even filled the eye sockets with the black for full cover, super excited about getting better at airbrushing.

At the minute I’m pretty much applying like I’m painting a house but triggering the flow and getting the pressure right is only gonna come with practice. Gonna use for the Drusilla brow prosthetic for the one coat pale vampire , will get that finished this week.

Thank fuck it’s half term so we can play, 4 MUC lined up for Easter, YEAH BOY.

I need to get better at perfecting my ‘Make-up artist’ face instead of pulling the ‘What the fuck have I done’ face because it all came together in the end - Like Tony Heart, just when you thought it was a massive cock up, triumph.

The trick is not to panic, it always looks a mess till the falsies go on.

Next week we are getting out the airbrush, Mwahahaha - Mondays made mint by Make up club :)

Currently sculpting out the vampire brow, got the wig and the yellow contacts, just need to make some time.

So Kate come over with her kit and so it began.

We had planned to do a make up each but these things take time, she made me up Anime style and it was a sterling first attempt. The photos really don’t do it justice and it’s a shame it was a Wednesday night and I couldn’t rock the look out at the pub.

Used pale pan stick base, liquid liner, white pan cake, scar wax to hid eyebrows, lip liner & gloss, blush, eyeshadow for contouring face, hella big false eyelashes top and bottom and blackout contacts. All things considered it was actually really comfortable to wear and next time I’m making up Kate - WIN

Laces for blending edges

I’ve been busy with other stuff and things ;) but finally got round to applying the gelatine laces, blending is hard, I managed a good job in places but I need more patience. I’m going to sculpt one more piece (Vampire brow) and mold in gelatine and then have a go at foam latex.

I pre-painted the prosthetic, as I figured it would be too awkward once applied. The gelatine isn’t a good colour match to my skin but should have mixed the skin illustrator flesh tone to match better. The molded lace holes had bubbles so the eyelets were slightly holey. It’s all just one big learning curve.

May attempt this again on leg with heated witch hazel to dissolve but I think I just need to sculpt a better tapered edge and leave flashing.
